Biography

Jaco was born in 1961 in Victoria West, South Africa.

Jaco holds a preference for wood and metal as his favored materials. His metal figures are almost always depicted in a silhouette style, using laser-cutting techniques.

His two-dimensional sculptures crafted from steel involve precise laser cutting, welding, and a final touch of matte spray paint. In conveying his visual narrative, the artist frequently incorporates archetypal figures, symbols, and elements from nature.

Through his work, he poses questions about identity, critiques historical injustices, scrutinizes the shallowness of popular culture, and addresses the environmental degradation caused by human greed. Jaco often develops series of artworks centered around specific themes.

While the sculptures by this unassuming artist prompt contemplation, they also exude a sense of humor and playfulness.

He describes the scenes he creates as "landscapes of the mind."
